I started Rail Motus because the advice I wanted before my first Interrail trip did not seem to exist anywhere in one place — just scattered forum threads, out-of-date blog posts, and operator pages that would rather sell you something than explain it.

So this is the guide I wanted: what a pass actually costs you against buying tickets, where reservations are compulsory and where they are a waste of money, which routes are worth taking slowly, and when first class is genuinely worth the upgrade. No itineraries you would never follow, no breathless prose about the romance of the rails. Just the things that change what you book.

Everything here comes from riding the trains and reading the fine print. If something on the site is wrong or has gone stale, I would rather hear about it than not.
